Daphne Fancutt Shield 2011

WE DID IT ! Waverley Tennis successfully defended the Shield again.

The Annual Daphne Fancutt Shield was played at Robinson Reserve over the week-end of 15th & 16th January.
Waverley Tennis had a very successful Daphne Fancutt Shield emerging as the winners (Waverley Tennis retained the Shield again).

Waverley Team was Ben Jones, Madeline Skaras, Taylor Petrucci, Jayde Viccars, Chris Wickenton, Stacey Ponton, Ryan Draffin, Jaide Collins, Nathan Ponton and Audrey Teo. I was very proud of my team who all played at their best, were great team members and supported each other. Some great personal achievements from Ben Jones, Madeline Skaras, Ryan Draffin, Jaide Collins and Audrey Teo who won all their singles and doubles matches. The attached Match Summary shows the final results with Waverley Tennis taking out the Daphne Fancutt Shield in the 20th year of the event.

Special thankyou to the Collins and Draffin family for billetting the players from Fancutt Junior Tennis Club in Queensland and to Daphne Mantzanidis and Lachlan Bridgland from Waverley Tennis who joined the Queensland team as "Honorary Queenslanders" replacing two team members who were not able to leave Toowoomba because of the Queensland floods. Two of the Fancutt girls made an exceptional effort to come to the tournament - Georgia Lowe had to climb from her apartment window and lower herself down on a rope and then escape by boat and Suzaan Stoltz lost her home in the floods. Our thoughts go out to all affected by the floods both in Queensland and elsewhere in Australia.
