Weekend Competition - FAQ

The Waverley Tennis Hotline (0468 958 927) is available to deal with any issues which require clarification of by-laws or any matter arising which cannot be resolved satisfactorily in junior or senior matches.

Prompt action is recommended if an issue arises to prevent escalation. Most issues should be able to be resolved satisfactorily without the need for a protest or complaint being lodged.

In junior matches, home club Venue Supervisor should welcome all visiting teams and parents upon arrival and wear the required orange vest for the duration of all matches.

This should ensure parents of visiting team can easily identify who to contact in the event of an issue arising during play.

For finals eligibility, 3 matches must be played in the section or an equivalent or lower section and must not strengthen a team. Prior permission should be sought from the relevant Record Secretary.

In Senior and Junior Singles/Doubles rubbers, the no. 3 and 4 players are permitted to play in the singles rubbers subject to correct order of merit.

No order of merit changes are permitted after round 10.

In home and away matches, home club to decide whether to play singles rubbers or doubles rubber first to ensure matches are completed in the most efficient manner.

For a protest or dispute to be considered, a copy of the scoresheet must be forwarded with the correspondence and must be lodged via an authorised club official.

Score sheet should be completed in full before any set or rubber commences. No protests will be considered if this has not been done.

A complaint should list full details of person/s details, be a short report with key issues and club recommendation of action considered appropriate.

No junior player may leave a venue while a match is in progress without prior approval of home Venue Supervisor.

With a home team forfeit, the away team is responsible for entering the result on TROLS. This match will only count towards the eligible matches of the non-forfeiting team.

Emergency players must not strengthen a team. Record Secretaries shall decide whether approved or not and normally a decision is made within 3 matches played.

A player used as an emergency in a previous season and not named in a team in current season is not automatically registered and needs be registered in usual manner.

An emergency in singles matches can play in no. 1 or 2 position depending on club judgement.

A no. 1 nominated singles player is not permitted to play in the no. 2 position under any circumstances if an alternative player is listed in no. 1 position.

It is the Club’s responsibility to register, in full, an emergency player on score card the first time such player competes. Failure to do so automatically means an unregistered player and all matches for that player shall be recorded as an ineligible player. Alternatively, the club may send an email prior to day of match to Record Secretary and include DOB, previous experience and personal grading.

UTR queries must be received from authorised club officials via email. Queries should be received within two weeks of match being played. Note, Waverley Tennis is unable to make any changes after the season is closed.

Any requests direct from players or parents, including via Contact on the website, will be ignored and not responded to.

UTR updates are processed by an outside body independent of Waverley Tennis. This is not done on a weekly basis so need be patient. Junior and Senior Convenors need to make this known to all players and parents.

The best way to ensure minimal errors and hence delay to UTR upgrades is to fill in score cards neatly and ensure match results entered correctly on TROLS and for team captains and Junior Supervisors to check cards at conclusion of matches have all necessary information.

The Waverley Tennis UTR page also has a couple of FAQs that answer a lot of these questions.

If a player forfeits a match whilst in progress, the match is automatically recorded as a forfeit with games already played to count but the match awarded to the opponent. For UTR purposes, a note in the comments section should be recorded and the score recorded as unfinished at time of forfeit.
